Kendall Down

Kendall Down at Kahun Kendall Down had no choice but to go along with the family on the 1958 trip, and the impression made on his 9-year old mind by the experience ensured that he would develop an early interest in archaeology. He has lost count of the number of times that he read in his childhood the evocative books by H. V. Morton, Through Lands of the Bible and In the Steps of the Master. Needless to say, since then his reading has expanded and become more serious!

In 1977 Kendall accompanied his father, David, to the Middle East to help run that year's Diggings Tour and he has been back frequently since then, both to assist on the tour and to take part in the various excavations with the Diggings team. These have included "digs" at Ain Yael, Tel el-Khama, the Western Wall in Jerusalem and Beit Govrin.

Kendall is a frequent contributor to the pages of Diggings and Archaeological Diggings, reporting on the activities of British and European archaeologists and occasionally writing about discoveries in those countries which, though not Middle Eastern, were linked by the Roman empire into the Mediterranean world. He has travelled extensively in Britain and Europe in order to research his reports, visiting the major archaeological collections and interviewing many of the prominent individuals in the world of archaeology.

As well as promoting the magazines and other products of the Digging Up The Past organisation, Kendall also carries on its educational aims by giving lectures on archaeology to schools and the public in various parts of Britain.
