Danny Herman

Danny Herman was brought up on a religious kibbutz in the Beth-Shean valley. In 1986 he joined the Israeli Defence Force for his military service, where Danny and family he served in a paratroop unit as a humble infantryman, but later rising to be a member of staff in a recruiting base.

After completing his military service Danny studied at the Institute of Archaeology of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, majoring in Numismatics (the study of ancient coins), and at present is working towards his MA degree. His MA thesis is going to be on a rare collection of Iturean coins purchased by the University.

To make ends meet - and to support Ravit, his wife, who is an elementary school teacher, and his two children, Tome (5) and Mai (1 and a bit) - Danny teaches in the overseas student's school of the Hebrew university and also guides and lectures on behalf of the Israeli Antiquities Authority. He specialises in tours in Jerusalem and the Judean Desert that emphasise archaeology, both Biblical and Christian.

Danny is also a member of the team led by Dr E. Mazar who are working towards publication of the final report of the excavations conducted at the southern wall of the Temple Mount, where they uncovered public facilities of the second temple period as well as substantial Byzantine and early Arab remains.
