Beyond the Obelisk of Tutmosis III in the Hippodrome at Istanbul stands a bronze column formed of the bodies of three serpents coiling about each other. The column stands in a deep pit; the base of the column rests on ground level in the days of Constantine and the hippodrome has gradually filled with rubbish over the years.
